Improve Chrome browsing speeds

Chrome is one of the most popular browsers for people on both PCs and Android devices.  However, one persistent problem is unique to the mobile version of the Chrome browser: delayed scrolling.  Ever since Google has replaced the AOSP Browser with Chrome, this lag has been an issue when scrolling through a website or trying to resize it.  Here’s a quick tweak to help solve the issue.

Thanks to redditor, u/erythrocytes64,  this simple tweak makes Chrome for Android noticeably faster and smoother. What the change seems to do is allocate more RAM for Chrome and as such, it improves the scrolling speed. Here’s how to do it:
  • Type chrome://flags into the URL bar in Chrome on your Android device
  • Find Maximum Tiles for Interest Area
  • From the dropdown, change it from default to 512
  • Tap on the Relaunch Now button

One thing to note, however, is that on devices with less RAM, this tweak might purge the memory much faster and causes your device to “clog up”.  If this is the case, change the value in the dropdown box to something smaller, say 256. Be sure to also note that a lot of the options in the chrome://flags are of the browser are entirely experimental, so be careful if you choose to play around with any other settings in there.
